A stone picker machine lifts rocks and stones out of soil so seedbeds, arenas, and fields are clean and level. Barber’s flagship Turf Rake does it with the same tine-raking technology as the Surf Rake, clearing stones from a half-inch to four inches across in a single pass. Explore our stone picker lineup and the jobs each model handles below.
If you are looking to pick stones from a smaller soil or sand-based area, you may benefit from our walk-behind units:
A stone picker machine removes stones, rocks, roots, sod, sticks, and similar debris from soil. The Barber TURF RAKE also grades rough or scarified soil and aerates it in the same pass, leaving the area level and ready for seeding or immediate use.
Yes. For smaller soil or sand-based areas, Barber also offers two walk-behind units: the Radius and the Sand Man 850. These are self-propelled and require no tractor, making them practical for compact spaces.
A York rake or box blade drags stones and debris into windrows or piles that a crew still has to haul off by hand. The TURF RAKE instead lifts stones onto a conveyor and collects them in its hopper, removing them from the field in one pass. You get a cleaned, leveled surface without a separate pickup step.
Pricing depends on the model, hopper size, and options you choose, so we quote each machine directly rather than post a fixed price. The more useful number is often total cost compared to otherwise necessary alternatives: a TURF RAKE replaces the hand crews, rented graders, and repeat passes a stone-clearing job would otherwise demand. Contact us with your acreage and conditions for a tailored quote.
Often yes, once you count the repeat labor. Hand-picking stone is slow and crew-intensive, and it must be redone as frost heave and grading surface new rock each season. One TURF RAKE clears in a single pass what took many workers hours, then keeps working year after year. We can help you compare your current labor spend against a machine.
Yes. H. Barber & Sons builds the TURF RAKE in the United States, the same family-owned company that has manufactured tine-raking machines for decades. Because we make the machines here, replacement tines and parts ship directly from us, so you are not left waiting on an overseas supply chain when a job is on the line. Similarly, our team is always available directly by phone during business hours to answer any questions.
Choose based on area size, the volume of debris that needs clearing, budget, and tractor access. Tractor-towed TURF RAKES suit acreage-scale jobs like arenas, fields, and construction sites where you already run a tractor. The walk-behind RADIUS and SAND MAN 850 fit tight or enclosed spaces a tractor cannot reach. If you are unsure, tell us your site size and access and we will point you to the right unit.
