The Radius is Barber’s walk-behind sand sifter built for tight, detailed cleaning — golf-course bunkers, horse arenas, playgrounds, and private beachfronts. Its wheels sit at the center of the machine, so it pivots and corners where other sifters can’t. The vibrating screen pulls small debris from the sand while leaving a clean, even surface. Learn more about the Radius below:
The wheels are located in the center of the machine, making it ideal for tighter cornering and turning.
The Radius comes with two interchangeable mesh screens (3/16” and 3/8”), which increases its versatility and allows fine tuning of the cleaning process. The frame and cleaning components are Hot Dip Galvanized for superior corrosion resistance and protection in sand and saltwater environments. The Radius also has a Honda 5.5 HP gasoline engine which is reliable, quiet, and meets all current pollution standards and noise restrictions.

The key difference is maneuverability. The RADIUS uses center-wheel steering for tighter turning than the SAND MAN’s independent-brake system — better for highly congested spaces. However, the center-wheel design comes at the cost of more operator work to balance and maneuver. It also has a smaller 6.6-gallon hopper vs. the SAND MAN’s 14 gallons and is slightly lighter at 475 lbs. So it’s better for spot-cleaning in tight areas, like for golf bunkers, vs more heavy-duty applications like full beach cleaning or higher-debris areas.
The RADIUS is best for golf bunkers or extremely tight areas, like playgrounds. For larger sandy areas that require higher capacity or throughput, the SAND MAN 850 is typically a better option.
It asks a bit more of the operator. The center-wheel design that gives the RADIUS its tight pivot also takes more effort to balance and steer than the SAND MAN’s independent-brake system. For short bunker and spot-cleaning sessions that trade-off is worth the maneuverability; for long runs over large areas, the easier-handling SAND MAN 850 reduces operator fatigue.
The RADIUS frame and cleaning components are hot-dip galvanized for corrosion resistance in sand and saltwater. That protection matters because salt and abrasive sand attack unprotected steel quickly, shortening a machine’s life on coastal duty. For bunkers, playgrounds, and private beachfronts exposed to salt air, galvanizing helps the RADIUS hold up over years of use.
The RADIUS is built for tight, detailed work, not large-area cleaning. Its 6.6-gallon hopper and 30-inch width suit golf bunkers, playgrounds, horse arenas, and small beachfronts where cornering matters most. For wide beaches or high debris volumes, the higher-capacity SAND MAN 850 or a tractor-towed SURF RAKE covers ground far more efficiently.
Yes. Bunker cleaning is where the RADIUS excels, because its center-wheel pivot corners inside tight, curved traps that other sifters cannot navigate cleanly. Its compact size and light 475-pound weight let one operator move it bunker to bunker easily. Many customers find it the most effective option specifically for this work.
