HOT DIP GALVANIZING

Double the life of the SURF RAKE frame by having it Hot Dip Galvanized! The entire steel frame of the machine is immersed in molten zinc. This creates a tough protective coating that is metallurgically bonded to the steel inside and out. This process increases the beach rake’s resistance to corrosion in the harsh saltwater and sand environment.

LIGHT ASSEMBLY

A light assembly can be attached to every Barber SURF RAKE, TURF RAKE, AND LITTER PICKER. Incorporating turn signals and running lights, the light assembly allows the machines to be safely transported on the road to and from job sites. It also adds extra visibility when operating on the road-side performing litter picking or dethatching. If you will be operating on roadways or in poor lighting, like early morning, the lighting assembly could be a valuable addition to your Barber machine.

CASTeR GROUP

Self-centering casters can be attached to the front of the SURF RAKE line of beach cleaners to greatly expand their functions beyond beach cleaning. SURF RAKES equipped with casters gain the ability to remove litter and debris on grass, soil, or pavement. The casters guide the SURF RAKE along the contour of the cleaning surface to ensure even cleaning, without damaging the cleaning surface. In this way, the SURF RAKE becomes an effective stone picker, litter collector, and dethatcher.

CHICAGO RAKE

When the City of Chicago Parks District was having a problem with e-coli contamination and bacteria in the sand, they asked Barber to create a beach cleaner that could help. The new Cultivator Option was added to the back of their machine to increase the amount of sand exposed to the sun. The prongs on the back of the machine go down 12 inches into the sand. This allows the sand to be pulled up and exposed to the sun, killing the bacteria in the process.

Auto-Lubrication-System

Barber offers an electrically-powered automatic lubrication system that delivers lubricant to all conveyor bearings every 12 minutes. A 1.25 liter reservoir holds lubricant sufficient for more than 250 hours of operation.

This auto-lubrication system increases conveyor bearing life, vehicle efficiency & utilization, and the overall life of components, while saving on maintenance costs, wear & tear on the vehicle, and downtime for repairs & servicing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hot dip galvanizing more than doubles the life of the frame in the harsh saltwater and sand environment. For coastal applications, it is widely considered worth the added upfront cost–especially if you plan on owning your machine for a long time.

The Finisher Assembly is optional, but it matters most where appearance drives value. Mounted at the rear of the SURF RAKE, it smooths tractor tire tracks and leaves a combed, manicured surface in the same pass. Resorts and hotels that trade on photogenic, well-groomed sand usually want it; a municipal crew focused purely on debris removal may not. If guest-facing presentation is part of your standard, we recommend adding it.

Some SURF RAKE options can be added after purchase, but most are far easier to specify up front. Most options require specific hoses and fasteners to be machined to carry hydraulic and electronic power, which can be challenging to retrofit. Hot-dip galvanization must be specified prior to purchase, as it affects the entire frame.Contact us with your model and serial number and we’ll confirm which upgrades fit your unit, if any.

The Light Assembly is recommended whenever you tow the SURF RAKE on public roads or operate in low light. It adds turn signals and running lights for safe, visible road travel between beaches and for pre-dawn cleaning before guests arrive. Contractors servicing multiple accounts and crews starting at first light benefit most. Road rules for towed equipment vary, so confirm your local lighting requirements before transport.

Almost all SURF RAKES are manually greased, particularly because it’s so easy to do. Each grease point is easilly accessible with a simple walk around the machine. And full greasing of the machine can be performed in under 5 minutes. The auto-greaser can be helpful if the smallest margin of error with maintenance procedures is desired or where time is at an absolute premium.
